Hello Brothers,
Great news on our upcoming October reunion at Fort Leonard Wood; the Baymont Inn & Suites has extended the reservation deadline from September 2nd to the 9th; that will hopefully give some of you more time to consider attending. We still have rooms left in the block reserved for the 39TH so please join us as we finally are recognized and take our rightful place at the US ARMY ENGINEER MUSEUM.
The summer newsletter was mailed Monday September 29th and each of you should have your copy by the end of the week. Anyone who has not received theirs please let me know and we will get it out to you as soon as possible.
I have also received a new shipment of the 39TH decals that are $1.75 each (approximate size is 4"x4"). I have 200 on hand at this time.

Greetings,
In a month and a half (October 6-9, 2011) we will be gathering again to renew old friendships and create new ones. For you that are planning on attending this years' reunion in Fort Leonard Wood and have not yet made your reservations time is running short; the guaranteed room rate at the Baymont Inn & Suites will expire September 2, 2011 so please make your arrangements as soon as possible. As of this time we have approximately 20 rooms left in the block that the 39TH reserved.
I have also attached a flyer from Troy Morgan who is the head of the Engineer Museum at Fort Leonard Wood; he will have his crew at the hotel during our stay to review your pictures, articles etc. and download them to CD'S or DVD'S to be used at the museum. They will use your originals for the downloads, return your originals and give you a choice of your memories on CD or DVD; this is time consuming and I am sure if you have it done elsewhere will probably involve some cost and Troy's crew will be doing it free of charge. Please bring your photo albums with you.
The Historian for the Engineers' is also going to be doing interviews on Saturday morning for any of you that are interested in relating some of your experiences while in country and several have already committed to being interviewed. If interested or if you have any questions please feel free to contact me at rayca@sbcglobal.net. Of course the big event is the Plaque presentation Saturday evening before the Banquet all of which are being held at the Regimental Room.
Hope to see you in October at Fort Leonard Wood.

Good Morning Brothers,
I have just been informed that we are completely set up for this years reunion. I would like to apologize to all of you for the misunderstanding and confusion earlier on the dates. Our dates had been confirmed for Sept. 29-Oct. 2 but an MP Battalion convention that was scheduled for mid Sept. moved to the end of Sept. and as usual the Engineers had to move.
Our dates are now confirmed for Oct.6-9 and our headquarters will be the Baymont Inn and Suites in St. Robert. We will be sending out registration forms with the necessary information in the next couple of weeks to all the membership. If any of you have questions I can be contacted at:

Again, I hope this date change has not caused you problems and that we will see you in October at Fort Leonard Wood.

Hello Brothers,
A quick update to the happenings with the 39th ENGR BN ALUMNI ASSOCIATION. The dates are set for the 2011 reunion which are Sept. 29th through Oct. 2nd; the hotel has not been decided on as of this date but should be forthcoming soon. The newsletter has been posted on the new web site and each of you should be receiving your copy in the U.S. Mail within the next week. If anyone does not receive a copy through the mail please let me know your current mailing address and the necessary corrections will be made and you will receive your copy.
I have listed the new web site below for any of you that have not already been to the site.
http://39thengrbn.com
Rick Stradal has worked hard on making this site what each of the members has requested and I think he has done an exceptional job and congratulations are in order. Gale and Diane Helser have also done an exceptional job on the newsletter, especially some of my spelling errors and congratulations should be extended to them also.
The Association is moving forward again with the help of all the members and for that I give a great big THANK YOU; I am proud to be associated with all the fine individuals that make up the 39Th.
The design of our plaque is a work in progress and hopefully it will be ready to be shown to the full membership in the very near future for consideration.
Again thanks to each and everyone for their contribution to keeping this fine organization moving forward.
BROTHERS FOREVER,
Bill Ray
Vice President

Hello Brothers,
As I told each of you in my earlier e-mails, this is what happened at this years reunion in Mansfield, TX.
We had 16 members and 9 guests present and from all accounts a good time was had by all. Saturday's trip to the American Legion went exceptionally well with the 39th members being recognized in the opening ceremonies by Post Commander Ron Bowman.
At the general meeting Saturday morning we had an election of officers and also made plans for the 2011 and 2012 reunions; 2011 to be held at Fort Leonard Wood, MO., with the dates to be announced later and 2012 to be held in Washington, D.C. to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Vietnam Wall and observance of Veterans Day.
The officers for the Associations 2010-2011 term are:
Bruce Fonnest/President
Bill Ray/Vice President and Assistant Reunion Planner
Jim Shamblen/Treasurer
Rick Stradal/Secretary and Webmaster
Frank Vozenilek/Chaplin
Sammy Smith/Sargent at Arms
Gale Helser/Reunion Planner
Board Members at Large/Floyd Babcock and Jerry Bright
There will be a newsletter published in the near future by Gale and Diane Helser and mailed to the membership if my understanding is correct and it will also be posted on the 39thengrbn.com website as soon as Rick Stradal can get it up and running.
There were more discussions which will be included in the upcoming newsletters. The main discussion which I will highlight is the plaque that we are going to place at the Engineer Museum at Fort Leonard Wood during the 2011 reunion. A letter from Jim Shamblen will be coming in the next couple of weeks giving the complete details and hopefully the dates for the reunion.
Thanks to all of you for your interest in the association and I look forward to hearing from and seeing each of you in the future.
I also have approimately 50 of the 39th decals left from the reunion (see attachment) that measure 4"x4", the price is $2.00 a piece if anyone is interested let me know and I will mail them to you.
Brothers Forever,

Brothers - My name is Bruce W. Fonnest. As some of you know by now, I was elected President of the 39th. I hope that I can up hold the high standards that Doc has put up in the past. Bill Ray sent out an e-mail with who had been elected to what office and who stayed the same. He had also put in where the next two reunions will be. The 2011 Reunion is going to be at Fort Lenard Wood, date and time to be determined. The 2012 Reunion is going to be in Washington, DC at the 30th anniversary of the Wall. I've just uploaded the pictures from this year's reunion to the Yahoo Group site. If any of you would like to have a copy of the CD of this year's reunion send me your address and I will send you a copy. The cost is whatever you think that it's worth.

Hi Guys. Well for you guys out there that missed Texas, you missed a
terriffic reunion. My new hat tipped to Mr. Bill Ray! The deciding push that
made the reunion happen. We had an election of some new officers to keep
interest going and with 16--39ers in attendance we voted on where to have our
next reunion which came up as Fort Lenardwood, Mo., which is where most all of us
39ers started out. My self, I went to Fort Jackson South Carolina. I was an 11
Bravo-- which got changed to a 12B20. That was when the Army volunteered me to
walk with the mine sweep team. The 2011 reunion came about as Jim Shamblen
brought up an idea as to place a bronze plaque in the Engineers museum on
post -- which will say about our 39er heritage during our stay in Vietnam.
Our next reunion in 2012 is at the Wall in DC. which is the 30th anniversary of
our Memorial, which is our Wall. I think our Veterans Memorial is more popular
than the great wall in China !!
