My name is Daren Morgan, I served with  HHC, 45th Engineer Group at Phu Bai from January 70 to December 70 as a surveyor.  Spent a month TDY to 14th Engineer Battalion, maybe 27th( that is what I remember) at FSB C-2 because someone decided they wanted a map of it. Used fired 105 mm shell casing as traverse stations. No one could find a place for us to bunk so we slept in the back end of our 2 1/2 ton for a month. Very lucky that no incoming rounds during that time period. Also spent time doing small topo surveys out of Chu Lai but most of time was at Phu Bai, S-3, then group photographer left so I moved into the dark room for a couple of months.  My tour ended a month early (downsizing) as the Group was moving to Red Beach in Da Nang.  Was very fortunate to be one step ahead of trouble all while I was there, someone was looking over me. I was trying to find the location of C-2 on Google Earth…anyone have Lat and Long?

Thanks for the photos of Duc Pho during the time period of Dec of 67 to the time I moved to Chu Lai late July 68. It was a lively time from Tet 68 on to the time I left. We were just down from Grave's Registration, close to EOD and the medics. 415th RRU eight man team.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the website, you are doing a good deed for us all. My name is Jim Holmly and I served with the 137th Eng co (LE) from September of 1969 to September of 1970. I was stationed at LZ Max, then moved on to build a runway at a place with a name I can't remember. There was an artillery unit already there when we arrived and I recall an eight inch gun exploding when the shell went off part way up the barrel, with predictable results.

Thanks again,
Jim Holmly

I was doing internet searches on LZ Dottie. I was there from March 1968 until December 1969 (back to back tours for early release). I was with Co B, 39th Engr Battalion the entire time. I noticed one comment about Bruce Haigh, referring to him as LTC. I remember when he became a 1st LT. I presume that means he made a career of the Army. Do you know of any sites for Company B?

Hi,
I was in Tam Ky 1969-1971.
I served as an advisor(USAID) in the Pacification Program. I lived in a compound just outside of the town of Tam Ky. I have many memories of those days.
I was a civilian and my best friends were the “grunts”. Thay lived in our fortified compound.

Take care,
Terry Coleman

Richard,
Well I'm a bit late to your party, but stumbled onto your page trying to locate the village of Duc Pho. My name is Bob Godding and I spent a year (July 67 - July 68) running up and down QL1 while you guys were trying to keep it open. I was a truck platoon leader (Convoy Commander) at Chu Lai for the 163 Trans, TF Oregon, later, B Co. 23S&T of the Americal. You guys did a great job. We lost very few people on the main road.  Can't say the same for 535 between Baldy and LZ Ross!  Nasty, nasty road.  While there, our trucks travelled from Qui Nhon to Dong Ha (with a side trip to Cua Viet by boat after Tet). Sorry for chasing you off of many bridges while you were still working on them, but we were just trying to do our job too! If I get a chance I may try to send you some of my pictures of Duc Pho or other places along QL1.

Thanks for maintaining a first class web page.
Bob

Hey Richard,
Saw your site and was surprised at the entries in it. There is one dated 12/19/2002 from someone who said he ran the air terminal in 1969. I don't know if there was maybe a "AIR TERMINAL"  on the other side of the LZ but I had the passenger terminal which was not far from main gate. My name is Dan (chico) Valdez I was with the 507th Trans MACV and I lived in the huge tent near it and Paul lived there as well (when he was on the LZ) I would really like to get into contact with this person or anyone that remembers me so I hope this gets published and they see it.

Thank You,
Dan (chico) Valdez

I am SP5 Bill Kane, head clerk, S3, 45th Engineer Group, Phu Bai from March 1969 to March 1970. I saw your guest book and recognized many people and places. I recently found 200 photos and slides in my basement and with the help of Richard Calmes posted them on pbase.com/wkane. Please check them out and feel free to comment or identify people or places. I did what I could to ID everything. I already heard from Daren Morgan(guest book 1/8/14) who identified himself and a couple of others. Please put this on your guest book.

Hi, my name is Jody Montgomery. I was at LZ Dottie all of 70. I remember some of the guys I was with, Ron Smith and Bones from Brooklyn. I was wondering if anyone remembers when I hit that mine with my 5 ton. I remember they buried the truck right there, I was dusted off to Chu Lai. I was wondering if any pictures exist of that truck. Thanks for the great site.

My Name is Steve Tersten. I served as a Medic on LZ Baldy and LZ Goldie and a few more I cannot remember. I served from December 1968 through December 31,1969. I treated and medivac a lot of people and cannot remember their names and hope they all made it. I have been haunted all these years wanting the people I treated  to know that I did the best I could. After I was honorably discharged I went into the medical field and look back with mixed feeling about my time in Vietnam ... Thanks.

Hello Richard: my father MSgt Norman A Hall was assigned to Duc Pho area sometime in spring of 1967 and was there until December of 1967. I wish I could remember his unit but he never spoke much about the war. He was in supply and his unit was part of 25th Div in Pleiku. Unit moved to Duc Pho and was transferred to the 4th Div. I saw in your roll call page the name Hall (?) and thought it could possibly be him. Wild shot there, was hoping someone might remember him. Someone from his unit was awarded the MOH while he was there. My dad past away 4 years ago and I was hoping to see if anyone remembered him.

Regards,
Mike Hall

Your site certainly brings back memories.  I was stationed in Chu Lai from October of 67 thru July of 68 and ran many convoys out of there to Hill 63 either as a driver or shotgun.
