Enjoyed looking at the pictures that you had taken when you were with Delta. I was with C Company in 1969 and our camp was at LZ Max about ten miles north of Duc Pho. I do remember the deserted church because two of us had to dig, with our only dozer, a night defensive perimeter there for a squad of APC's one day and I remember walking into the church and someone had scrawled the name of my hometown - Chicago - in giant letters on one of the inside walls. Glad you were able to take many pictures and put them out for others to see. Thanks. Rick

Just a line to a 39ther from a 39ther, WD Stutler here, was with them 8/68 - 8/69 HHC at Chu Lai and at LZ Goldie, which was south of Quang Nai and north of Snoopy. Units at Goldie, D Co 39, A Co 39, Heavy Equip Plt, HHc 137th and 630th and an infantry Co. Can't remember which from 11 LIB. Welcome Home Brother. If I left any units out, it is memory failure not intentional.

I enjoyed looking at your pics. The one's you took of the morning mine sweeps along 535 brought back memories. I was in A Co. at LZ Ross, we met you guys every morning at the stream. I remember losing our Lt. & Sgt when their jeep hit a mine at the river. From Dec 67 to Dec 68 I spent time at Ross, Baldy, Young & a special forces camp, I believe Thien Phou. Peace to you my brother. John Ruttman.

I very much appreciate your site. My name is Merlin Hanson. I too was with Co D Hq platoon. The picture of our motor pool with the 5 ton loaded with a triangular tank in the back was the truck I drove to the quarry every day. After a day of drilling and blasting I would stop at a river and fill that tank with water for our showers. Thank you very much for this site. It brings back a lot of memories. mjhanson

My name is Roger Bailey. I was a Spec 4. I was medivaced from Tam Key City on July 7th, 1970. I was on a vehicle that hit a land mine. Something happened to me that day. I can't remember what company I was with, all I know is that I was with the 39th combat eng. I can't remember the names, I do remember the faces. My heart gets deeply saddened and I still cry as I am now entering this. I try to deal with it, and so far I have. I will survive. Your buddy in Kentucky.

John R Lewis, 3rd platoon leader, D company, 39th engineer battalion, Jan to July 1971. Improved road from Tam Ky to Thien Phuoc. This is the only web site that I have been able to find about the 39th engineer battalion. My E mail is: fbfd@gibsoncounty.net. I am the chief of a volunteer fire dept and I am using the department's address. I am a novice at a computer and am just feeling my way along. I would like to get in touch with anyone that I served with. Thanks for the site and keep up the good work. I also was the field XO or platoon leader for all three platoons of C company Aug to Oct 1971 at My Lai. We built a road around the Batangan Pininsula which was just north of Quang Nai.

Good God........ In the time frame of about an hour, I had a thirty-five year " flashback ". I read and reread every printed word, and comment, made on this site. Viewed all the photos, for fear that I would miss something, or someone. Lots of memories......even more emotions.......! My name is Wade Johnson, I was fortunate enough, to have served, with the Thirty-Ninth, from Jan. 1967 to Jan of 1968 ( Co. "D" ). I was one of those from the 36th. Engineer Battalion, from Ft. Bliss, Texas that shipped over as a battalion. To relieve and replace, some of those, that may have still been around. And came to be, in country, from Ft. Campbel, Ky. As I read the presented accounts, of the many that served. Not only from my own company "D", but from Hqs, A, B and C and with a time span of as early as 1965, to the latest dates I read, that where in late 1971. Without a doubt......every one of us, should hold our heads high. And be proud to have served, and made history, with the greatest Army. Questionabably then......but most certainly now. In the annals of world history. "But least we not forget, those of our brethern, who have made the supreme sacrifice". Wade Johnson that replaced

Great site. I was in Task Force Frazier at Baldy in 1968. I did refrigeration repair and kept the food cold and the morgues running. I found one of my buddies Bryant Strickland's name and e-mail. I have not been able to contact any others. I would love to find Captain Frazier. He was the best officer I ever met. Your pictures of the scenery and the mine sweeps brought back a lot of memories. We were located next to the ammo dump north of the airstrip. I flew out to all the LZ's in the area. I was at Ross a lot patching up reefers. Thanks for sharing.

Richard, Great site... I was a Chinook pilot. 132 ASHC (Hercules) and went to Duc Pho many times during late 1968 and most of 1969. We were based in Chu Lai and used Duc Pho as a staging area for the nearby LZ's. I think it was the hottest place I've ever been and surely the worst place I saw to be based. Had a lot of pretty decent lunches there. Thanks for the memories. Darryl Dickie - E-mail: darryldickie@earthlink.net
