Hello RB. Just found your site today in a search for a friend. I was in the 175th RRFS, next to a motor pool, and across from helo pad Castle in Bien Hoa. I only have his first name, Ray, known as “wretched Ray,” from Georgia. 1970/1971.

I was uncertain as to whether a motor pool, would fall under Engineers company.

Thank you. John North, Edwardsville, IL

Hi Richard,
My name is Gary Farris. I served with the 137th Engineer Company (LE) 67-68. I read a post on your Roll Call Page from Roger Bailey from D company 1970 39th Engineers. He said he was wounded in July 1970. I also have a friend, Glenn Coplin, that served with D company and was also wounded at the same time. Glenn is trying to get in touch with Roger. He thinks they were in the same incident. Could you help me contact Roger Bailey? I live in San Bernardino, Ca. My email address is gfarris2@msn.com and my phone is 951-453-1722.

Thank you very much…Gary Farris

Dear Mr. Mayes:
My name is Elizabeth (Gannon) Thornley. I am the niece of Thomas Gannon. He served in Vietnam. He would never ever speak about it. My kids Middle School would have a Run For Vets event every year, he loved attending. One year a man asked him where he was stationed, (the man was also a vet) he told the man and walked away. The man looked at my son and said be happy he came back.

He was drafted right out of high school. He never would let anyone tell my grandmother he was in Vietnam, he told her he was in Germany. When he was finally sent home, I was told, because of all the protests he got off the plane and changed in the bathroom to civilian clothes.

My Uncle Tommy was the greatest man I have ever known. Everyone would say The Man, The Myth, The Legend. He had the greatest one liners. He was the best listener and could give the best advise. He could make you laugh til you cried.

He passed away July 23, 2017. He suffered from Agent Orange, Jungle Rot, Emphysema, Diabetes and COPD. He came home but not really for like ten years, that is when he got clean and sober. He dedicated his life to helping others. He became a drug counselor and even achieved his psychiatrist license. He loved to say he could hang a sign out. He never did. He was just not that type to charge for help. And help he did. Day and night. Seems there is always someone calling at 2am.

He was sick for many years. But the last two were really hard. I miss him every minute of every day. In the end, he wanted to see his year book from boot camp or even his graduation picture. He was focused on it. I never found it. I saw you had a Dan Gannon thought maybe it was my Uncle Tommy. I would love if anyone could help me find a picture of him or if someone knew him. I truly apologize for this long email. I just want to finish his journey for him.

Thank you for your attention.
Thank you for your service.
God Bless,

Elizabeth Thornley
