My name is Mike Mitchell. I was in A Co, 39th on LZ Dottie, drove a 10 Ton, ran a Dozer. Does the name (The Machine) ring a bell. LOL

Served with John Schwede who was able to contact me through this wonderful site. Thanks for a great site. I served with Co. A, 39th Engr, Jan 1971 to July 1971.

Any one who remembers me can contact me at: craneswork@yahoo.com

Hello guys,
Tell me if I'm wrong but I was tracked down in a round about way. I think your website includes me in the 39th. I was assigned to the 31st at El Paso TX. where we loaded up the unit and shipped to Viet Nam in 1967. We landed in Tuy Hao and commenced operations.

After a few weeks we made a beach landing at Duc Pho and established a water supply point. I was front end loader operator / M-60 man. I don't remember the platoon leader. We cleared and set up a base camp for the 101st on some inland then set up an outpost about halfway to Duc Pho airfield. Am I on the right track?

I had no idea there was such a website, guess I just figured most folks just wanted to forget that like a bad dream. At any rate I am very impressed by the site.

Also I would like to express my gratitude to then Capt. Walsh for the amenities he thought to have us load up, they sure made life more tolerable "across the pond".

I moved to Houston, TX. and went to work for Shell Oil Co., spent 32 years there and have now retired to Arkansas on The White River just below Bull Shoals Lake. When I went in the service I lived in New Jersey.

Let me know if I'm right please.

My father was Paul Mitchell and was in Duc Pho at LZ Snoopy from the fall of '68 until sometime in 1969.  I am in the process of scanning some of his old photos but found one of him in a picture that a Terry Rossiter had posted on your site some time back.  Do you know of any way to contact Terry?  Any help would be appreciated.

Richard, great site.  I wish that I had kept a journal of my RVN tour.

I found your site while surfing for the 39th Eng. Bn information.  You and I were in the same unit, D Co, 39th Eng. Bn, for about three weeks.  About Easter 1968 we moved to Chu Lai.  I was supply sergeant D Co., 39th Eng. Bn from 30 Jan 1968 to 25 Jul 1968.  After that I was with the 27th Eng. Bn. at Camp Eagle, which was at Gia Le, our project was the A Shau Expressway (QL547 & QL548).

My home of record was North Kansas City, Missouri.  I now live near Lathrop, MO.  My e-mail address is: hpearson@grm.net

I am surprised that Fritz is missing from your Roll Call page.  Fritz was driving the 2nd Platoon 3/4 ton on 01 Mar 1968 when he hit a land mine.

I'm attaching a picture of myself and will send other photos later.  Let me know if you have trouble getting the photo.

I am writing to you to see if you ever remember seeing a sign or hearing of Bryant Road in the area of Vung Ro Bay or Port Lane Vietnam during your tour there. My uncle was David Banks Bryant and served in the 18th ENG BDE, 35th ENG GRP, 572nd ENG CO. I just recently received a copy of the sign posted along the road named after him and was trying to find the approximate location of this road. From your website it appears you too were stationed in this area after he was killed and was just hoping you might have some information. Thank you for any information you might be able to supply. Also I want to thank you for your service to your country.

He was operating a dozer on a steep incline when the dozer rolled over on him. I have found several military documents with some of the information. One even described the road as "an 8,000 ft 2 lane all weather road running from the port up through the rugged mountains connecting with Highway QL-1"  I did use Google Earth to attempt to locate the road. I think I may have but not certain. In the article from Army Digest about Port Lane I was able to match the road shown in the picture on page 3 to the road on Google Earth and it does connect with QL-1 and is approximately 8,000 ft long. If you speak to anyone and they can confirm it that would be great. Thanks again for your help.

My big brother Mike Chapman just died of cancer at the age of 68. He was my leader. He never spoke much of Vietnam and I was little when he came home. He was never the same. I do know that he was trained as a generator mechanic and was assigned to a special forces unit and he was in combat. He did things and saw things, that he never spoke of. I would say he was there from 67 to 68. I would like to find some photos of him for the family. Could there be a way?
