My name is Harry Glenn Buford - I served as 2nd Plt Ldr in D Company 39th from February 1967 to January 1968. Many of the picture sites are familiar to me. In fact many of them were my projects. I remember well the beach, Montezuma and Baldy. I would be interested in hearing from anyone from the company. I will submit all I can remember about our year there. Please put me on your roll call list. Maj Glenn Buford, USArmy Ret. buford1960@vallnet.com

My name is Randy Elsbury. I served w\39th eng.from 1970-1971. I was at Phu-Bai, Hoi-an, Tam Ky, and LZ Dotty for a while. I am really glad to have found your site. The pictures really brought back alot of memories. You have an execellent site and you should be proud of it. Also the scenery shots were great. I did alot of traveling up and down that highway. Over the years w\several failed marriages I've lost most of the pictures I had. Lucien Townsell who lives outside of Paduca Ky was also w\the 39th. He was a friend. I'm glad ya'll made it home. I wish all could have made it back. I saw this a while back, "A man is not dead, until he is forgotten". I'll never forget. Thanks again for the fine site.

Charles Russell was my Dad's driver. He didn't make it home, to this day my father speaks highly of this young man that gave his soul for his counrty and his fellow man. I salute all of you. I drove a few convoys to supply LZ Ross during Tet and always wanted to thank you guys for clearing the many, many mines out of the road.

Richard, The 3 photos on the page listed as LZ-Baldy Mine Work happened after January 10 and before January 20, 1968. I was at the sight when it happened. The Sgt that was burned so bad was Ron Huffman from Bellefountaine, Ohio. I was wounded at the same place on Jan 20 by a mine and lost my left leg. I saw Ron Huffman latter that year when I was home on leave from Valley Forge General Hospital in PA. I am Sp/5 Harvey Blair of the 2nd plt of D CO.

I was stationed in Vietnam in 1972. Cam Rhan was my first encounter in the land of la di da. We had to circle the field three times before it was all clear to land. My first 63 days in country was there at the air force section near Mi Ca Villiage next to the bridge that went to the other side of the bay. I never knew who it was but a guy that was far off always said, "Welcome to Vietnam Bill!!". I was in the Air Force security police tiger flt. March 28, 1972, and went home a year later when it was all over when most everyone went home ending the US involvment in vietnam. Thanks, William Robinson TRUEBLUEBILLY@HOTMAIL.COM

Richard, the operator of the dozer in this photo with Jose Lopez ridding shotgun was me, Vaughn Rowland. I remember this day well. Been back to Vietnam several times and the last time was this past month, May 2004. I have several pictures of the area you fellas were at and a amateur video that I took. I'm not sure where Duc Pho is but I was around LZ Baldy and LZ Center for several hours driving around taking pictures. About an hour south of Hoi An, and about 20 miles due west of Hwy.1 where most of my pictures were taken. The map I have is over thirty years old and the area has changed tremendiously so you can't rely on those old maps any longer. If you want to contact me, just call or write to my email address. I am going to have to correct myself on those recent pictures of the area around Duc Pho. When I looked at a recent map a few minutes ago, I noticed that the LZ Baldy, spoken of on your website, it is a different Baldy than the one I was visiting. This one is north of Chu Lai and Tam Ky. The pictures and video I have taken are as I said just an hour south and about 30 miles west of Hwy. 1 today. I stand corrected. Curtis Gilliland, Somerset,Kentucky.

I see in the current 39th News an article by John Phillips Jr. In it he urges everyone to contact him. Anyone have any knowledge of an address, e-mail or otherwise? Seems strange to invite w/o an address. Bob Daniel HHC/D. Co. medic '67-/68.

Thanks for taking the pictures and posting them. For various reasons, the pictures I had are no longer around. The years have a way of making the memories fade and I appreciate getting to see "the real thing" again. I was in Viet Nam from October 1968 to October 1969 and again September 1970 to August 1971. I flew an O-1 from Chu Lai. Our company was the next building south of the USO that you photographed. My wife was a nurse at the 27th Surgical Hospital and later the 91st Evacuation Hospital, both at Chu Lai. Her one tour was from August 1970 to August 1971. We adopted a Vietnamese orphan in 1975. I remember LZ Baldy. I stopped to have lunch there once. The mess hall had a built up area where the officers could sit and look down at the enlisted people. They even had some poor guy working as a Dining Room Orderly (DRO). He took food orders from the officers and brought them their trays of food. I left and flew elsewhere to eat lunch. I couldn't believe that in the middle of a combat area there was such egocentric arrogance and stupidity. I wanted to walk around the mess hall apologizing to the soldiers but I knew they had to continue living under the rule of those officers. I retired from the Army Reserve with almost 30 years in uniform. I have to grudgingly admit that today's Army is better than we were in Vietnam, but I could never be prouder of anyone than I am of the soldiers of Vietnam. Men who started in an Army that paid $76 a month, suffered in a miserable war, and came home to a hostile country. Nobody ever gave more for their country than they did. God bless you all, and just in case nobody said this to you before, "welcome home".

Richard, Just looking at your web-sight again. I first found it last April. Don't know how many times I have looked at it since then, but it always brings back different memories for me. Some times it feels like a million years ago and sometimes in was this morning. Wanted to go to the reunion but was sick and doctor said no traveling from mid June till early August. It looks like a lot of the guys did make it there and I don't remember any of them being that old (but then I got a lot of gray hair and wrinkles to). Sure would have been nice to make that reunion. If another reunion is ever planned, please let me know. I am Harvey Blair at Blair@cybermesa.com Good-by for now

My name is Bill Jernigan. I was with C Co from Oct 68 to Oct 69. I was from Miami Florida and played guitar and sang all the Bob Dylan tunes. I taught a few guys how to play guitar. Arrived in country at Snoopy and was there during the seige. I kept the 50 cal and was a demo man. Was slightly wounded in an ambush on QL1 where several guys were hit bad and one or two were killed. I have some great photos that I will send along. Remember Red Hill? You could see the burned up apc that had been left behind. Christmas 68 in Snipers gap. The arch that charlie built across the road with goldfish in plastic bags and the NVA in their new uniforms standing in the rice paddy waving at us on their way to Red Hill.
