The book was written by John F. Schlatter. Here is some information about the author:

I am retired after a 30-plus year in corporate communications. After spending three decades writing things I HAD to write, I'm now writing things I WANT to write. In 2012 I published a book about postcards from World War II and the soldiers who wrote them, "Postcard Memories from World War II. That led me to write "Died on the Fourth of July" in 2014, a tribute to the men who died in Vietnam on Independence Day. In 2013 my wife, Becky, and I published "Splittin' the Mitten: Get Your Kicks on M-66," a book about Michigan's own Route 66.
